Hi, I’m Yasmin Tayag.
I’m a staff writer at the Atlantic, where I cover the (busy) intersection of food, health, policy, and culture. I also co-host the Atlantic podcast “How to Age Up.” My writing has been published in the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Guardian, Vox, Slate, Bon Appétit, and other outlets.
Previously, I was the lead editor of the Medium Coronavirus Blog and founding editor of Future Human. I was also a senior editor at the health site Elemental and the tech site OneZero. Before that, I was the senior science editor at Inverse.
I grew up in Toronto, received a degree in human biology and English literature at the University of Toronto, then graduated from New York University with a Masters in biology after a stint in a developmental genetics lab, where I studied heart formation in embryonic sea squirts.
I’ve been a podcast guest on Science Friday, NPR, the Brian Lehrer Show, the Sporkful, the Colin McEnroe Show, Vox’s Today Explained, the Bomani Jones Show, and WBUR’s Here and Now. Some of my live and TV appearances include the Atlantic Live Health Summit, the Bloomberg American Health Summit, CES, SXSW, and Newsy. I was once a copy editor at Nature journals and an all-around gal at the World Science Festival. In what now seems like a different life, I was also in a bunch of Scientific American videos.
